UUID (v4) Generator

Generate cryptographically random version 4 UUIDs, one or in bulk.

How it works

A version 4 UUID has 122 random bits, making collisions practically impossible. IDs come from crypto.randomUUID() (or crypto.getRandomValues as a fallback).

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a UUID and a GUID?

They are the same thing. GUID is the term Microsoft uses.

Can two UUIDs collide?

Theoretically yes; practically you would need to generate billions per second for decades to have a meaningful chance.

Are UUID v4 values safe as database keys?

Yes, but random keys fragment B-tree indexes. Consider time-ordered UUIDs (v7) for very large tables.
