HEX, RGB & HSL Colour Converter

Pick a colour or type a value in any format (hex, rgb() or hsl()) to get all the others.

How it works

HEX writes the red, green and blue channels as two hexadecimal digits each (#3b5bdb). RGB writes them as 0-255 numbers. HSL describes a colour by hue (0-360 degrees around the colour wheel), saturation and lightness, which makes it easier to create lighter or darker shades by changing a single number.

Three-digit hex such as #fa0 expands to #ffaa00.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert HEX to RGB?

Split the hex into three pairs and convert each from base 16 to decimal. For example #3b5bdb is rgb(59, 91, 219).

Why use HSL?

It maps to how people think about colour: adjust lightness for a darker or lighter shade without changing the hue.

Does it support transparency?

Not yet. Eight-digit hex and rgba() values are not parsed.
