Text Diff Checker

Paste two versions of a text to see which lines were added, removed or left unchanged.

How it works

The comparison finds the longest common subsequence of lines, then marks lines only in the original as removed (-) and lines only in the changed text as added (+). It is the same idea used by diff and Git.

The comparison is line based and case sensitive. Trailing whitespace counts as a difference.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text uploaded?

No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser.

How large a text can I compare?

Up to a few thousand lines each. Very large inputs are refused to keep your browser responsive.

Can it ignore whitespace?

Not yet. Trim the lines first if indentation differences are not relevant.
